A Visit from the Northern California Regional Land Trust

In mid-March 2026, we had the pleasure of hosting the Northern California Regional Land Trust (NCRLT) and a group of guests for an educational field day. It was a meaningful opportunity for us to share our experiences with regenerative ranching and holistic practices.

When we first began working this land, much of it had been degraded over time, with thin soils and reduced native plant diversity. Through careful management, planting diverse forage species, and allowing the land time to recover, we are seeing gradual improvements in soil structure, plant health, and resilience.

Roy happily answered many questions about soil health, the history of the land, and the strategies we have used to reduce erosion and further degradation of the land, including our plantings and the rotational grazing processes we employ with our cattle.

One of the most rewarding parts of this work is seeing the return of wildlife. From pollinators in the fields to the many bird species that now inhabit the ranch, these are signs that the land is healing. During their visit, guests observed a wide variety of birds and native insects, along with evidence of active wildlife habitat throughout the ranch. These moments help illustrate how closely soil health, plant diversity, and wildlife are connected.

It was a joy to share our work and philosophies with the NCRLT. We love answering questions, exploring our land with curious visitors, and it also helps us to reflect on how far we’ve come in our commitment to restoring and preserving this ranch for generations to come.

We are grateful for the opportunity to share our work with organizations like NCRLT that are committed to protecting working lands and supporting regenerative agriculture for the future.

Thank you to the NCRLT and all the visitors who have tromped through our pastures with us! If you’d like to visit, please reach out here and send us a message.
